WHAT WE DO?
Gym based programmes involve the use of resistance through machines, dumbbells or stretchy band to help improve your muscle strength, coordination, and overall function. It may be used in conjunction with traditional physiotherapy treatment or independently as a separate programme. Often requested by ACC or affiliated providers to assist a return to full function and work.
WHY WE DO IT?
After an injury or operation your body will lose muscle strength and size, and your ability to perform activities will be compromised. If this loss is significant then stimulating the body through a progressive and individualised gym programme will better enable you to return to full function.
WHO WOULD BENEFIT?
Anyone who is recovering from a long term injury or orthopaedic surgery.
WHAT IS THE PROCESS?
Your physiotherapist will develop a programme that is personally suited to your injury and your ability. This will then gradually progress over time as you recover. Exercises will need to be undertaken regularly through the week to gain benefits. You may need the approval of your Surgeon before commencing a programme.
